Update count when All Files are checked when selecting images for viewing

Is it difficult to also update the viewer count in the drop down for the viewer that should be clicked on to open the images? For example, the .svs or .scn images would open the path viewer and the users should select the top viewer options. So the drop down would say - View Images (2) in the screenshot below.

The selection of DICOM files is working great. I see the counts listed in the drop down for viewer.

The selection of pathology images isn't updating (you may already know this).

Question about cart vs. in-dataset selection:

If I select 2 images in Collection A, then navigate to Collection B, the selection indicator in B still shows “2,” even though I haven’t selected anything there. This feels confusing.

Is there a way to keep the cart global, but show per-collection selection counts separately (e.g., “0 selected in this collection; 2 in cart”), or scope the selection indicator to the current collection only?

@yuliujpl Not sure how far along you are on this. Wanted to add a bit more on the Cart idea and another possible implementation solution that would help users understand the difference. Let me know what you think!

UI current behavior:

• selecting files/images inside a dataset adds them directly to the global shopping cart.
• when switching to another dataset, the inline viewer shows all items in the cart (including selections from previous datasets).
• possibly create confusion: users expect to only see the files they selected in the current dataset, not everything in their cart.

proposed behavior:
Add an add to cart icon

local selection (dataset-level):

• applies only within the dataset currently being viewed.
• maybe selections are cleared or reset when navigating away from that dataset.
• the inline viewer should display only those local selections.

global shopping cart:

• persists across datasets.
• items are added only when the user explicitly chooses “add to cart.”
• cart contents should not automatically drive the inline viewer inside a dataset.

analogy: like e-commerce: browsing a category = local selection, adding to cart = explicit global action.

Checkbox & Cart Behavior Requirements
Checkboxes (Dataset-level selection)

• This should only affect dataset-level viewing and downloading.
• Dataset-level actions are scoped to that dataset only (not across multiple datasets).

1. When a user checks a file’s box → the “View” button count updates and the appropriate viewer option count in the dropdown updates (only show viewers compatible with the selected file type). See test report for example.
2. Check All checkbox → selects all files in the current dataset. Checks all the boxes and updates the count at the dataset-level.
3. Unchecking it clears all file selections in that dataset. Unchecks all the boxes and updates the count at the dataset-level.

Cart Behavior (cross-dataset aggregation)

1. Add an "Add to Cart" button: allow users to add selected files (or an entire dataset) to the cart.
2. Cart contents should show files grouped by dataset, so users can clearly see which data came from which source.

Cart actions:

• View items (preview by file type/viewer)
• Download all or selected items across datasets
• Remove items individually or clear the entire cart
• Persistent cart: selections should remain across pages and sessions until cleared by the user.
• Feedback: after adding items to cart, display a confirmation (e.g., “5 files added to cart”) and update the cart badge count.

@yuliujpl This is looking great.

The DICOM functionality is working perfectly — the “View” button count updates the appropriate DICOM viewer option in the dropdown.

For Pathology & PDF:

• Update so the count next to the correct viewer option is updated. Just like the DICOM functionality.
• Update the Viewer List Label: Change the dropdown label text from “View Standard Images” to “View Pathology/PDF” so it’s more intuitive.

@yuliujpl I'm testing downloads in prod and am finding a few additional items with the checkbox and cart.

• No check "All" checkbox in the EVMS Mass Spec collection to allow me to uncheck if i have clicked Download All. This might be because there isn't a dataset for this collection. Also no "Add to Cart" button on this type of collection.

Hi Heather, In dev: here are the updates, there are still somethings not yet done: 1. Checkbox and add to chart at collection level enabled 2. Added add checkboxes for a single page 3. Add "View Pathology" in the drop down, this will allow for Digital Slide Archive view. However, you won't be able to see it labcas-dev, only works on edrn-labcas (given server issues), but you can still see the functionality. 4. Added a image (png, jpg, etc) viewer. However, there's some specific png files that are big (>50mb) that can't open, I'm not sure if they are actual images. Thanks! David

@yuliujpl @elawsgh Thanks for making updates. I have a couple of questions:

1. I'm not sure what the first update "Checkbox and add to cart at Collection level enabled" is. I'm not seeing what i think that at a collection level. If i view a collection that has files listed below, i don't see a check all box.

2. Added checkbox for single page - I see a button on the BBD collection, but don't see that on any other collection. I don't know that we need this, what i was trying to convey when talking was that we need the existing check box functionality on collections that don't have datasets, but rather have all of the files listed below. See labeled screenshots:
