I am not following what is the issue here. If you have a fan power pulling upwards all that changes is what direction all the connected chutes move items. So if you dropped an item into the diagonal bellow, that will pull it up to where your funnel is then extracts. Can you elaborate what is wrong here?

This is really just the reverse situation of #6163, which was determined to be working as intended in the relevant PR.
Though I would say it's a bug in that case that the airflow particles aren't visible for that section:

I think that to me, the diagonal section texture is what says the most that it probably is a closed section and would not interact with anything below it.
