Just checking, when you tried those changes on the branch, you changed the yaml file to something like

devtools::install_github('COMPASS-DOE/compasstools', ref = 'bypass-dropdir')

?

I've only tried in in the console and used devtools::install_github("COMPASS-DOE/compasstools@bypass-dropdir")

Should I try that instead?
